One of the Barossa’s rarest and most distinctive wines, recast in sparkling form. Rockford Black Sparkling Shiraz Disgorged 2022 is the product of old-vine Shiraz, traditional craft and long ageing before its final disgorgement. Built on the same heritage that defines the Basket Press Shiraz, this release carries both depth and freshness, a balance achieved through bottle fermentation and extended time on lees.
The base wine is drawn from Barossa Shiraz matured in seasoned oak, then revitalised through secondary fermentation in bottle. After years on lees it was disgorged in 2022 and finished with a touch of Rockford’s own fortified Shiraz. The result is a sparkling wine that captures the Barossa’s richness while offering the lift and elegance of fine bubbles.
Deep in colour and expressive in flavour, Black Sparkling Shiraz is regarded as a cult release within the Rockford stable. The limited bottlings are sought for their ability to evolve over time, rewarding cellaring while being compelling on release.
Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Dark fruits and spice
Blackberry, plum and blackcurrant layered with liquorice, cocoa and subtle oak spice, lifted by a hint of violet.
PALATE
– Rich yet lifted
Concentrated dark fruit and chocolate notes balanced by fine bubbles and savoury spice, giving both weight and freshness.
FINISH
– Long and dry
Persistent dark fruit with touches of liqueur and spice, finishing with balance and length.
